Leveraging insights from the content strategy and product roadmap, this project guided the development of a comprehensive content library for the CaliforniaColleges.edu platform. Designed to enhance guidance on college and career planning, as well as financial aid resources, the library was created to serve 6 million students across all California districts in compliance with a legislative AB Cradle to Career mandate. Our approach focused on developing student-facing pages and materials that provided clear, comprehensive support, ensuring equitable access to vital educational tools and information for every student throughout the state.

The Need. The CaliforniaColleges.edu platform required a centralized content repository to streamline access for its 3 million users and educators. With over 166 content pages, materials, and supplementary supports spread across the platform, there was a critical need to consolidate these resources into a single, easily accessible hub. This initiative aimed to improve navigation, enhance engagement, and ensure all students and educators could efficiently access the essential educational tools and information they needed.

The Solution.
The CaliforniaColleges.edu platform urgently needed an overhaul to improve usability and accessibility for its 6 million students and educators. With over 100 content pages, materials, and supplementary supports scattered across the platform, navigating resources was cumbersome. To address this, we developed a structured content library, a redesigned landing page, and dedicated resource and links pages to create a seamless user experience with a digestible, easy-to-follow interface.

My solution included codifying a highly interactive content library landing page using HTML and CSS to ensure both accessibility and engagement. This new design streamlined content into three core categories, each serving as a central hub that housed all related materials and guided users to the appropriate resources. By consolidating and organizing content more intuitively, we enhanced engagement, reduced redundancy, and provided a clearer, more effective platform experience for students and educators alike.

Cross-Functional Brainstorming Using Virtual White Boarding.
Arriving at this solution required extensive cross-functional collaboration across multiple departments, including Product, Design, UX/UI, and Content Strategy. Through a series of brainstorming sessions, we leveraged Figma as a digital whiteboard to visually map out user pain points, content redundancies, and structural inefficiencies within the platform. These collaborative workshops allowed stakeholders to contribute insights from their respective expertise, ensuring that the content library and redesigned landing page aligned with both user needs and business objectives. By incorporating accessibility standards, engagement metrics, and UX best practices into the planning process, we created a framework that was both intuitive and scalable.

Feedback gathered from leadership and cross-functional teams played a critical role in refining the strategy and guiding the final deployment. Iterative reviews allowed us to test different content structures, visual elements, and user flows, ensuring that the new layout effectively streamlined navigation while maintaining a high level of accessibility and engagement. These insights directly shaped the final product, which simplified content organization into three core categories, improved ease of access, and provided a more user-friendly experience for the platform’s 6 million students and educators.
