In collaboration with InSpace, a proof of concept for a generative AI-assisted simulation role-play tool to enhance training for frontline managers was developed allowing frontline managers to interact with AI avatars and virtual colleagues in realistic simulations. Our teams refined the proof of concept to tailor it specifically a program geared towards aspiring frontline managers equipping them with the necessary skills to be readied for the field. This enabled us an opportunity to offer immersive, practice-based experiential learning enhancing managerial skills and workforce readiness through realistic, hands-on scenarios.

The Need. Frontline managers often lack opportunities to practice real-world skills while navigating asynchronous leadership programs, leading to gaps in practical experience and readiness. To address this need, we identified the necessity for a SaaS solution leveraging advanced AI technology to create a realistic simulation role-play environment. This platform aims to provide managers with immersive, hands-on practice in navigating complex scenarios, enhancing their practical skills and overall effectiveness in real-world situations.

The Solution. To address the gap in practical skill development for frontline managers in asynchronous leadership programs, we embarked on a comprehensive solution development process.

User Research and Analysis:

We began by leveraging ChatGPT to analyze and distill over 500 job descriptions from diverse frontline management roles across industries such as supply chain, restaurants, food service, and hospitality. This analysis enabled us to identify the top skills frameworks essential for frontline managers to thrive.

Following this, we conducted extensive user research, including a robust array of interviews with 50 participants and distributed 100 surveys to industry professionals from companies like Walmart, Marriott, KFC, Amazon, and other Fortune 500 giants. The insights gathered provided a detailed understanding of the practical skills needed and the existing gaps in current leadership programs.

Solution Development:

With confirmatory analysis from our research, we performed a gap analysis of the existing leadership program in collaboration with our Academy partner. This analysis highlighted areas requiring enhancement, which led to the integration of newly identified competencies into the program.

Implementation:

We integrated a generative AI-assisted simulation role-play tool to address these gaps. This SaaS platform creates a realistic simulation environment where frontline managers can engage in practice-based role-plays, interact with AI avatars and virtual colleagues, and experience complex scenarios relevant to their roles. This tool was designed to be embedded into the leadership certificate program, providing an immersive and practical learning experience that enhances job readiness and skill application in real-world settings.

Enter AI Assisted Role Play. To enhance the leadership certificate program, we partnered with our development team to create a cutting-edge generative AI-assisted simulation tool. This platform allows students to engage in interactive scenarios where AI generates real-time prompts, simulating interactions between a frontline manager and either an employee or a customer.

As students role-play through these scenarios, the AI tool employs computer vision to evaluate their interactions, providing detailed feedback through a comprehensive report. This report highlights areas for growth based on a pre-generated competency rubric, which is aligned with essential management skills. The AI was trained on diverse language nuances, effective communication practices, and cultural sensitivity, ensuring that the tool accommodates accessibility requirements through WCAG and Section 508 standards. This approach ensures that the simulation is not only realistic but also inclusive and tailored to a variety of communication contexts.
